Doctor Who- From the Beginning- Series 9 part 1-

So I already made a bunch of videos for the 9th Series-

Anyway- Part 1- Last Christmas and Magicians Apprentice to the Woman who lived.
A great start to the season, often regarded as Nu who’s best and it’s clear to see why- The Doctor and Clara dynamic is at its strongest since the Anniversary. She’s warmed up to the new Doctor, even with the loss of Danny Pink, so there’s a deeper connection between them. Missy and Clara working together is a bit weird, though that’s upstaged by the Doctor playing guitar on a tank!
Under the Lake and Before the flood are the best eps, the Fisher King being an awesome villain. They Ashildr and the Vikings arrive with a great line from the Doctor about saving people and an interesting twist.
So that’s the first half of the season, but get the hankies ready for Part 2!

Plus United in War still up!-

United in War- (2/2) (Final time!)

United in War- (2/2)

THE DOCTOR WHO PROJECT-
BRIEF ENCOUNTER-

UNITED IN WAR
By Ian Cai Mercer

Featuring- The First Doctor Ian, Barbara and Susan. Set in between Planet of Giants and The Dalek Invasion of Earth.

There are many things I could say about this story, how long it took and the tweaks/redrafts, expanding scenes, fleshing out the characters and species. I realised early on the Doctor and Susan had most of the dialogue/action, so had to really flesh out Ian and Barbara’s journey.
This was a challenge but also led to developing the delegates as well.

The Sculptor group is a nearby collection of galaxies, though a more recent change has seen some absorbed into the Local Group. The Atlas of the Universe I’ve mentioned several times as a great source of inspiration, though it looks like the website hasn’t been updated for a while.

So on the video I go through my history with TDWP, how I started a story in 2012, but dropped out and been pitching a few ideas. I did do some reviews, but never got used, though my review of City of Death went into Whotopia in 2013 (see publications page)

So, hopefully that is my final post on this story. 11 mentions since the start of June! Next one up is Inquisition, a 5th Doctor tale. Better get my skates on with finishing that one over the summer.

DOCTOR RRR’S GUIDE TO THE WHONIVERSES- DOCTOR WHO- FROM THE BEGINNING

THE PETER CAPALDI ERA-

SERIES 8 (SEASON 34) PART 1-

The Good Man debuts, so take a Deep breath and let’s go see a Tyrannosaurus Rex in the Thames!
The Paternoster gang- Madame Vashtra, Jenny and Strax all join the New Doctor- Peter Capaldi as the 14th Incarnation/1st in New Regeneration cycle (NOT 12th- that’s marketing that can’t add up) and Clara.

They investigate Spontaneous combustion and the plot of the Half-faced Man. All good fun. Then it’s Innerspace as they go Into the Dalek, or should that be Honey I shrunk the Kids? Or The Borrowers?

Anyhoo, Rusty the Dalek gets his space invaded and a bit or re-wiring by The Doctor. Does he become a ‘good’ Dalek though? (rhetorical question- no answers on a postcard please! (That is so 80’s))

Robot of Sherwood is a bit campy, trying to be part Time Warrior, part Maid Marian and her Merry Men (It’s pancake day!) It’s fun though.

Listen goes to the opposite extreme, being a Gamechanger, partway through the series, the tone shifts. This is a genuine ghost story, full of twists and scares. While Time Heist is a great caper.

Rounding off is the Caretaker, the Doctor undercover at Clara’s school, meeting Danny Pink and confronting an alien killer that looks like a cross between a Dalek and a spider/Shadow-creature from Babylon 5.

And that’s the overview of the first half of the season. I may have mentioned it, but I’ve got a story coming up on The Doctor Who Project website- UNITED IN WAR on 22/06/2024 TDWP is a Canadian fan site whose stories can be downloaded in pdf format. I did start a story back in 2012 for the 39th season, but that fell through. I have been reading the past few seasons and Brief Encounter stories, as I’d featured pics of the covers on last year’s vids, so gonna carry on promoting it.

These feet they go a’wanderin’

So what is going on with the weather? Last Friday was utterly different from the blazing hot sunny days of last weekend. I edited and posted the video of my walk in Stanley Park after the job fair, which I mentioned in my story/pears essay. It’s actually been both a frustrating and depressing week, yet I’ve still managed to get stuff done. Not as much as I’d like, but still, a bit of progress.

So Stanley Park was nice, not so great was The Warehouse walk, where I’d intended to follow the foot/bike path back to Bold Heath. I thought walking that way would be nice, that was wrong. The path was closed because of construction work- booooo!

So I went for a wander amongst the warehouses, saw a few unoccupied, thought they’d be nice spaces for a film studio! Yeah- if only. Must get a plan together for that.

So two walks and too many ideas, have to get organised- now there’s a plan.

And George Lucas said there’s no originality or much imagination in the media- known that for years!

Mr H-

Anyway, turns out the Met office weather forecast for Bank Holiday Monday was off- it hasn’t rained yet, so could’ve gone for a walk, ah well, maybe another day!

TDWP Ice warrior story

Dr Rrr’s Guide to the WHOniverse will return Sunday second of June with Series 8, Part 1.
In the meantime, I’ve enjoyed Season 45 part 1 of The Doctor Who Project. Last story today!

Three years since The Revolution ROARED- A Stripe of a Different Color revisited

It was Liverpool Comic Con and Star Wars weekend, though I couldn’t really afford it, so instead worked on a few story ideas.

I was reminded on Facebook that it’s been three years since my second paid story and First SF short story was published in Galaxy’s Edge magazine. There are a few other stories scattered in a few notebooks, Intergalactic Cat Wars, time travels, etc. Speaking of which, it’s also been twelve years since Tiglet got his hiking paws on, so expect more of him on future 50 things to do in Halton vids.

It’s not just cat aliens, my forthcoming Brief Encounter for the Doctor Who Project in the summer, pitched as Attack of the Medusoids was inspired by the line in Frontier in Space, where he was captured by the Medusoids on his way to a peace conference to meet a giant rabbit, a pink elephant and a horse with yellow spots! So I’ll get into that nearer the time.

Right now, it’s either go for a walk or do some editing, oh the agonies of choice!

Birthday hike and Widnes Market Comic con 3 –

Get ready for a muddy trail. Doing the 50 quirky thing in Halton has made me redo a few old treks but with a new angle.
After going to St Luke’s (Not edited yet) I thought I’d wander up to the Bold area, in hindsight this was not a good idea. Last time I was there in 2020 (Over the bongs and far away July 2020-10 part vid) It was certainly a lot drier and I saw a Kestral and a Hare, plus I carried on to the Dream. Not so this trip.
A nicer stroll was round Clockface colliery. Then next day and a bit of the day after was the third Comic con at Widnes Market, which was good fun.
