Kicking off with one of her best songs (as well as video) ‘Mine’ is a hopeful/romantic song, one of my favourites. The ‘Sparks Fly’ video was a live concert, a brilliantly choreographed show with Orchestra, Dancers and a firework show, oh; it’s a great passionate song too!
‘Back to December’ is a bittersweet melody, while ‘Speak Now’ covers that awkward moment at a Wedding “Speak now, or forever hold your peace”. Swift conjures up an amusing incident, though I have not seen the video for that yet, sounds good though. ‘Dear John’ and ‘Mean’ are commentaries about abuse and bullying, ‘The Story of Us’ is in chapters, very nice, as is ‘Never Grow Up’
‘Enchanted’ is THE Fairy-tale romance, capturing the first moment, the first spark of interest. Brilliant, and my second Fave track. ‘Better Than Revenge’ revs up the rock, thrashing out payback. ‘Innocent/Last Kiss’ are great ballads.
That leaves ‘Haunted’, the third best track, a tale of when someone changes, like in Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, a disconcerting flip of the coin. It is yet another great theme that I could use, this time for my British Supernatural series, like the Opening theme of Roswell/Smallville. Definitely worth looking into for Kat’s Theme.
The final song ‘Long Live’ is another Anthem, like a sequel to ‘Fearless/Change’, bringing the album to a crashing close, raising the roof, shining with hope, an awesome note to end on. Tackling issues head on, fearlessly Taylor Swift may have been around a while, but I’m already looking forward to her new Album ‘Red’.
Speak Now is out now, though I’m gonna have to get the Deluxe edition, just to listen to Superman!
